Topic: Am I being tracked? Achieving Location-based Privacy with Deniable Authentication.
The recent widespread of mobile computing technologies and intelligent devices has necessitated the development of vital location-based services (LBS) applications. Many people utilize such applications for multiple purposes, ranging from navigating to places of interest to tracking pets or children. Although these applications assist in a user’s everyday activity, they have apparent privacy issues because they intermittently track users. LBS users are vulnerable because they have no control over what their data is used for during and after using such applications. A malicious service provider colluding with third parties can, over time, predict whether or not a user has a health problem or initiate malicious conduct, such as making users vulnerable to multiple online advertisements.
In this presentation, we will demonstrate how deniable authentication can allow users to access services from service providers without sacrificing location-based privacy. Deniable authentication is a concept that aims to enable users to authenticate their identity in a somewhat anonymous fashion to ensure that service providers are prevented from leveraging location-based data for any malicious purposes.
