"You are holding in your hands an album that couldn’t possibly have seen the light of day if Alain Lebon hadn’t imagined it. For this, I thank him.
The Magma-influenced progressive rock band Apsara was formed in the autumn of 1981 by six musicians: two bass players, a drummer, two singers, and a guitarist. With the benefit of hindsight, I can see the amount of effort we all contributed at the time and how tight the band had become. This is why we have put together this “collection” of four pieces recorded live in 1983 on cassettes, which despite spending around thirty years in a drawer, now stand as an honest testament to our passion and one piece recorded in a studio. We have resisted any temptation to cheat with the original source and just cleaned up a few glitches. I hope that while listening to this music, you will bear in mind that thanks to your interest, this album by Apsara has enjoyed the rare privilege of a posthumous birth.”
Frank W. Fromy
"This collection was planned in the spring, but only now we were pleased with this curious archival material, which tells about the origins of two bands - the very famous Shub-Niggurath and the lesser-known Altaïs .
It all started with the band Apsara, founded in 1981 by guitarist F. Fromi and bassist F. Goodier. Prior to that, Goodier was fond of Ange, and Fromi, of King Crimson, Gentle Giant and Yes, but having joined forces, they headed for zeuhl. The studio managed to record the only track “Enfer mais”, as well as play a concert together with another group Gorgonus, where the musicians of the future Shub-Niggurath played along with our heroes.
After the splitting of Apsara, more famous events began. Fromi joined Gorgonus, and the work of the new Shub-Niggurath is well known to all fans of the genre. Goodier recorded in 86 with his group Altaïs the eponymous and hitherto rare EP."
