The origins of the brand of the rose and shield harken back to 1926, when “The Tudor” was formally registered by “Veuve de Philippe Hüther”, a Swiss watchmaking house for use by Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf. The Rolex patriarch envisioned this new offshoot as a way to offer watches with the dependability of the flagship brand at a more modest price point. In 1936 Wilsdorf acquired sole rights to the brand and the signature rose began appearing on dials, a symbol of graceful design
