STORYLINE
Lebanese army troops were given as rapturous welcome as they arrived in the village of Chebaa, near the disputed area of Chebaa farms, a border region occupied by Israel that Lebanon claims, but which the UN has previously said belongs to Syria.
The small parcel of land no more than 10 square miles (26 square kilometres) is located on the border between Israel, Lebanon and Syria.
Residents danced in the streets and threw rice as the convoy of armoured vehicles, jeeps and tanks advanced through the streets and sheep were slaughtered in a traditional ritual of welcome.
The deployment comes after 40 years, as part of the UN-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah after recent fighting.
Overlooking the Lebanese Bekaa Valley, this area is located on a mountain some 5-thousand feet (1,525 metres) above sea level.
Since the 1967 Six Day War, Israel has been occupying this relatively high area, which provides it with certain advantages from intelligence and strategic points of view.
Lebanon and Hezbollah insist on the return of the area.
