Описание: The world of mountaineering is mourning the loss of Nirmal Purja, the legendary Nepali-born British climber who died in an avalanche on Pakistan's Broad Peak at the age of 43.

Purja, popularly known as "Nims", was among 10 climbers killed after an avalanche struck the expedition on July 30. Six of those who lost their lives were Nepalese, making it one of the deadliest tragedies in recent Himalayan climbing history.

Nirmal Purja transformed modern mountaineering with his extraordinary achievements. In 2019, he stunned the world by climbing all 14 peaks above 8,000 metres in just six months and six days, breaking a record that had stood for years. His remarkable journey was featured in the Netflix documentary 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible.

Before becoming a world-famous mountaineer, Purja served 16 years in the British military, including 10 years with the elite Special Boat Service (SBS). He was awarded an MBE in 2018 and was also part of the historic all-Nepali team that completed the first-ever winter ascent of K2 in 2021.

Beyond his records, Purja championed Nepal's climbing community, bringing global recognition to the courage and expertise of Nepali mountain guides.

Tributes have poured in from around the world, with Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah describing Purja's life as an enduring inspiration of courage, dedication, and service.
