Overhype, Underperformance, & the Mythologization of Daikatana

In 1997, a game that was meant to revolutionize the First-Person Shooter genre was announced by none other than John Romero himself, following his departure from the company that he helped found. In 2000, that game released to critical condemnation. That game was Daikatana, and few other games managed to reach the same levels of overhype and underperformance as it did. In this video, I explore the mythologization of Daikatana, offer a small critique of the game itself, and overview its rocky development and try to answer why the game's conceptualization became so detached from reality.
