This video has ten years of gar fishing information and knowledge put into 40 minutes. For the last decade i have been a catch and release alligator gar guide i have handled tens of thousands of these fish over that time period, i have extensively explored catch and release alligator gar angling and have used every hook style and every rigging method that has been used on them.
I set out to make a video that could stand the test of time and be considered the ultimate guide to catch and release fishing for alligator gar, i think i achieved what i set out to do.

We start out on a quiet bank on a remote river in Texas the first half of the video i go over hooks, rigging your bait, best rods and reels, line recommendations, release tools, which baits are effective. I talk about why we need alligator gar in our rivers and why being conscious of the hooks and methods we use is important for the future of this fishery.

In the second half of this video I catch yall two very large fish after only waiting to set for about a single minute, i remove both hooks, i show yall how to rope your fish how to control it at a bank as well as how to tag it and finally how to revive them as well.
