Don’t Sign Your EHCP Until You’ve Checked This One Section

Описание: Section F is where the Local Authority commits to what your child must receive. It turns recommendations into legally enforceable duties. If something is missing or vague here, your child could be left without key support, and the council won’t technically be breaking the law because it was never clearly written in.

Here’s how to check Section F before you sign:
1. Match needs to provision.
Every need listed in Section B must have a corresponding provision in Section F. If it’s not there, it won’t be delivered.

2. Look for vague wording.
Phrases like “regular support,” “access to therapy,” or “as required” are not enforceable. Replace them with specifics like “weekly one-hour speech therapy delivered by a qualified therapist.”

3. Confirm frequency and provider.
Each provision must state who, what, how often, and for how long. Example: “30 minutes daily of 1:1 literacy support delivered by a trained TA.”

4. Check for therapies and health input.
If reports from SALT, OT, or CAMHS recommend direct work, make sure it’s written in full — not hidden as “advice available to staff.”

5. Don’t rush under pressure.
You have 15 days to review a draft EHCP. Use that time to cross-check every section, ask questions, and request changes before signing. Your signature closes the draft stage. Make sure you’re signing a plan that actually protects your child.
