About “Moon”
An intimate nocturne from the October suite, “Moon” moves with a calm, steady pulse and a lyrical, weightless melody. George shaped the piece in the late 1970s; its closing section grew from ideas he explored in 1979, reflecting his fascination with the phrasing and spaciousness of traditional Japanese koto. The koto is a traditional Japanese zither with movable bridges, plucked by hand to create shimmering, bell-like tones.

About Autumn
Released in 1980, produced by William Ackerman, and tracked June 19–20, 1980, with engineering by Harn Soper and mastering by Bernie Grundman, Autumn is sequenced as two seasonal suites, September and October. It became George’s breakthrough, introducing his “rural folk piano” to a much wider audience and capturing the season’s shifting light and mood through spacious, lyrical solo piano.
