I know I have shared how 1977 was a turning point in my life. Although I was a Christian it was this time where I really began to understand what it meant to live a Christ centered life. I was entering my junior year in High School and we had moved from Colorado where I had attended private Christian schools since the 6th grade.

Now back in Florida I was away from all I had known. All my friends were back in Colorado, I knew no one and my parents were forcing me to go to a place called “The Rock House” (the youth ministry of Calvary Assembly in Winter Park, FL). After attending the High School Pastor (Robert Spradley), one of the worship leaders (Gary Ramey who has become a great advisor for JMOL) and one of the lay leaders (Jeff Hagel), came to my house to welcome me.

It was the first time in my life someone from such a large ministry had reached out to me and not only reached out but invited me to a “Beach Retreat” over on New Smyrna Beach. The problem was my family had just moved across country and they did not have the money to send me. Robert told us it was no problem and that someone had donated a scholarship for the retreat and that I could have it if I wanted to go. I went and it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

They put me in a room with a young man who was going to the same school I would be going to and who would become my lifelong friend (along with his two brothers). Alex, Jeff and Peter Schweizer would work with me, go to school with me, and torture me (lol). We grew up through the late 70’s and early 80’s, went to church together and build a bond in Christ that lasts today.

A bonus was there was a music group that was part of the retreat named “The Sharrett Brothers”, who performed for us each afternoon and evening. They would become one of my favorite groups.

So many little things that God moves around to mentor and provide for us! Now 44 years later the times we all spent together in “The Rock House” and teaching applied to our lives helped keep me from danger, gave me the strength to make it through 20 years in the Army, work with homeless and veterans in need, be a Radio Minister on WAJL Radio, and found Jesus Music on-Line.
Our God is always holding us and directing our lives through the suffering and rain of our lives. When we don’t know what to do or are distraught He is always there making something beautiful out of our lives! 1 John 5:4-5 "For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God".

My favorite song off this album by The Sharrett Brothers is “Singing through the Rain” due to the storms in life that rained on me. From the “Song for the Heart” album on the “DaySpring” LP in 1977.
