Russia's Maslenitsa Festival Celebrated in Beijing

Описание: MetroTV, Hundreds of visitors crowded Chaoyang Park on Thursday to experience the “Moscow Maslenitsa in Beijing” festival, which brought traditional Russian spring celebrations to the Chinese capital. The festival introduced Russian spring customs to locals and tourists alike, as a celebration of the end of winter and the arrival of a new season. Participants, both Russian and Chinese nationals, wore traditional clothing, performed on stage, and distributed pancakes to visitors enjoying the festival. “We want to give them the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a true Russian folk festival without leaving the city,” said Igor Morgulov, Russia's Ambassador to China. This is the first time Maslenitsa has been celebrated on a large scale in China, coinciding with the long Chinese New Year holiday. With more than 100 performers from Moscow, the festival offered the chance to try authentic Moscow pancakes and traditional Russian cuisine, as well as a variety of popular interactive activities, including folk games, performances by a Cossack choir, master classes, and photo opportunities with a bear mascot and a giant samovar.
