This Is Where V8 Swaps Get Messy… Capri Gearbox & Bonnet Problems

In Episode 4 of the V8 Capri build, things start getting real. Now that the V8 is finally sitting on its mounts, it’s time to tackle the next big challenges that always come with engine swaps.

First up, we need to work out how to line up the manual gearbox correctly — making sure the gearstick sits where it should inside the car, not halfway through the tunnel. As expected, nothing bolts straight in, so it’s all about measuring, adjusting, and problem-solving.

We also test-fit the bonnet… and as you might expect with a big V8, it doesn’t quite clear. We look at what options we’ve got, from modifying the bonnet to finding a way to gain clearance without ruining the look of the car.

While the engine bay is accessible, we deal with some long-standing rust issues. Old repairs and corrosion are cut out, welded properly, ground back, and then finished off with primer to get the engine bay solid and presentable before final assembly.

This episode is all about the unglamorous but essential work that makes or breaks a build — alignment, clearance, and fixing years of neglect properly.
