BMW M5 S63TU Engine Teardown & Rebuild Part 5 - Cleaning Cylinder Wall / Manual Hone

Описание: The BMW F10 M5 S63TU Engine teardown and rebuild continues! Time to get back under the bonnet and see if I can clean up the cylinder or if I need to pull the whole engine and send it away for repairs?


Today was a good day (I think), I started out by using kitchen cloth and engine oil to simply see how much would simply clean off witha wipe! I was quite surprised how much it actually cleaned up but there was still a lump. Using a special measuring tool I was able to determin that the blemish was a small lump of something that had fused to the cylinder wall. It was actually creating a 0.05mm lump (ish). Now I figured it's not because the cylinder was is distorted, this must be build up from when the engine was running with the hole in the piston. And if that's the case I should be able to remove it.


I used 600 grit Wet and Dry sandpaper and engine oil to lubricate, and started with a very gentle pass. Being careful to apply literally no prossure and just let the paper do it's work. Cleaning up and measuring the bore as I go until we get to the final result.


I'm really pleased with how it came out, but I'm sure I'm going to get bombarded with comments about why this wont work!


Ultimately time will tell, as soon as this is all back together I'll be doing a compression test and seeing if I have good compression or not. If it all goes wrong, it'll be back to the drawing board, but I can't see why it would be a problem?
