This is just a test we performed at our laboratory during college times with camera of mobile phone of that time. Don't expect too much from it.
The consistency test of cement using the Vicat apparatus is a laboratory test used to determine the setting time and consistency of cement. Here are the steps to perform the test:
1. Prepare the apparatus: Ensure the Vicat apparatus is clean and dry.
2. Prepare the cement paste: Mix 300g of cement with a specified amount of water (usually 0.85 times the water required for the standard consistency test) to form a paste.
3. Fill the mold: Fill the Vicat mold with the cement paste, making sure to fill it to the top.
4. Level the surface: Use a tamping rod to level the surface of the paste.
5. Place the needle: Carefully place the Vicat needle on the surface of the paste, ensuring it is centered and in contact with the surface.
6. Record the time: Start the timer and record the time it takes for the needle to penetrate 5mm into the paste.
7. Repeat the test: Repeat steps 3-6 until the needle fails to penetrate the paste, indicating the initial setting time.
8. Determine the final setting time: Continue the test until the needle does not penetrate the paste at all, indicating the final setting time.
9. Record the results: Record the initial and final setting times, and calculate the consistency of the cement.
The test should be performed in a controlled environment, and the apparatus should be calibrated according to the manufacturer's instructions.
