So I built a headphone amp/preamp. I also built a linear power supply for it. It's supposed to sound "tubey". Does it? And how does it stack up to my Xduoo TA-84 and Aune S17 Pro?
Important update: the folks at DIYAudio noted that the harmonic distortion I mention in this video doesn't match how the ACP+ is supposed to perform. After reviewing my build with them, it seems some of my resistors were burned out. I have replaced the resistors and now the harmonic distortion measurements have gone down dramatically. I'll be doing a follow-up video, but in short the "fuzz" I talk about hearing in this video has disappeared.
Corrections:
It seems that 3 db lower is half as much power but not half as much loudness. 10db lower is half as much loudness.
