This endeavour by Sridevi Nrithyalaya is a humble attempt to imbibe and reproduce the lyrical, musical, philosophical beauty and essence of the timeless Thiruppavai and Thiruvempavai through the golden voice of Sri G. Srikanth and visual representation by students of Sridevi Nrithyalaya.

PAVAI 04:
. ONNITHILA NAGAIYAAI....

The girls reach their friend's house to find her still sleeping and so they ask, " Oh my friend with a pearly bright smile! Has it not dawned yet?" The girl who is lazily lying on the bed, unwilling to wake up, questions if all the others, who talk as sweetly as parrots have assembled. Understanding the latter's trick, the girls outside reply, "We shall count and tell you, but do not while away any more time sleeping." As they say this, they realise that singing the glories of the Lord, who is the antidote to heavens, the one who is the essence of all the Vedas and the one who is the feast of our eyes, they are too deeply moved at heart to count. So, they conclude, "Come out and count for yourself and if there is any discrepancy, you can go back to sleep."

ஒள்நித் திலநகையாய் இன்னம் புலர்ந்தின்றோ
வண்ணக் கிளிமொழியார் எல்லாரும் வந்தாரோ
எண்ணிக்கொ டுள்ளவா சொல்லுகோம் அவ்வளவும்
கண்ணைத் துயின்றவமே காலத்தைப் போக்காதே
விண்ணுக் கொருமருந்தை வேத விழுப்பொருளைக்
கண்ணுக் கினியானைப் பாடிக் கசிந்துள்ளம்
உள்நெக்கு நின்றுருக யாம்மாட்டோ ம் நீயேவந்(து)
எண்ணிக் குறையில் துயிலேலோ ரெம்பாவாய்.


4. Aazhi Mazhai Kanna:

Summary:
This Pasuram is believed to be addressed to Lord Varuna, the God of Rain. The physical features of the Lord are attributed to rain in these verses. By pleading for rain, the maidens not only intend to make the land prosperous but also envision His form in the rain that is expected to pour.

Translation:
Oh God of Ocean and Rain! Please offer without any reluctance. Delve deep into the ocean, accumulate all water and rise up vehemently. Take up a dark form ( clouds) like the Lord's own body, beam with all your brilliance like the disc (lightning) and produce sounds that resonate the conch ( thunder) which majestically adorn His splendrous shoulders. Pour down incessantly like the ceaseless arrows that arise from His bow ( rain drops). Let life thrive through this rain and may we successfully complete our Nombu.

ஆழி மழைக்கண்ணா! ஒன்று நீ கைகரவேல்
ஆழியுள் புக்கு முகந்துகொ டார்த்தேறி,
ஊழி முதல்வன் உருவம்போல் மெய்கறுத்து
பாழியம் தோளுடைப் பற்பநா பன்கையில்
ஆழிபோல் மின்னி, வலம்புரிபோல் நின்றதிர்ந்து,
தாழாதே சார்ங்கம் உதைத்த சரமழைபோல்
வாழ உலகினில் பெய்திடாய், நாங்களும்
மார்கழி நீராட மகிழ்ந்தேலோ ரெம்பாவாய்.
