Описание: 📅 23rd August is the European Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Totalitarian Regimes

​​We owe remembrance, truth, and justice to all of the victims. It is high time to commemorate the victims by building the Pan-Europian Memorial for the Victims of Totalitarianism in Brussels❗

The international competition for the design of the Memorial was started by the Platform of European Memory and Conscience under the patronage of the European Parliament President. The project “An Echo in Time” by British-Hon Kong architect Tszwai So was chosen.

The Memorial will be a visible symbol of remembrance and, at the same time, a manifestation of truth about the past and a place to pay respects and give justice to the victims. At the basis of the European project lies the conviction about the need to overcome the experience of two totalitarian systems, and the Memorial is the way to do so.

💡 The European Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Totalitarian Regimes was proclaimed by the European Parliament in 2008, as on 23rd August 1939 Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact was signed. The Pact divided Europe between totalitarian regimes and was the beginning of the war. It was the most devastating chapter of European history.

☝️It is extremely important to remember the past in order not to let it return. Preserving the memory of the crimes committed by totalitarian and authoritarian regimes is the only way to show that democracy and fundamental rights are not given but the result of a painful history.
