I got word of a CSX military train leaving Cincinnati Queensgate Yard and heading to Louisville, Kentucky on the CSX Short Line. It left just before midnight so I went to LaGrange, Kentucky to catch it street running. It was the only train on the entire line at the time. I beat it by an hour and a half.
The train is seen street running on Main Street just after 4am. It has 4 locomotives and one was a small switcher unit being transported. Check out the Department Of Defence heavy duty flat cars with extra axles. This train had all kinds of freight cars including my favorite, the boxcar. After the train passed, I drove to Anchorage near Louisville and filmed it a second time. However, it was just too dark to use the video even with my truck headlights aimed at the train. I only beat it by minutes. I might put it in another video.
I returned to LaGrange and waited until after 7am and nothing was near so I decided to head home and get some trains in Walton, Kentucky on the way. In Walton you will see trains from several different locations. I decided to use the radar gizmo to make it interesting. One train was booking pretty good! A couple of trains had DPU locomotives in the middle. One of the Norfolk Southern trains had RailVac maintenance of way equipment after the DPUs. Recently I put up a Shorts video of this same equipment going into the tunnel at Galitzin, Pennsylvania.
Shortly after I got home I got word of a Cincinnati Eastern Railroad loaded rock train heading westbound. I chased that train from Mount Orab, Ohio to the hill in Williamsburg, Ohio. We also see a closeup of the rail before and after the train passes. Listen to the SD40-2 as it works up the hill running long hood forward. We also got a wave from the engineer.
All the trains in this video were recorded on the same day. I have quite a few military trains.
