Deep Elem Blues - FRONT PORCH REVIVAL

Описание: Front Porch Revival is a couple of dudes based in Columbus, Ohio who play traditional street blues really well. This whole set from November 2010 smokes but I'm rushing this one tune to print to get under the wire for the DeadCoversProject.

Noah Shull employs a mean, comprehensive blues style, forcefully delivered to his acoustic guitars. He has a solid servicable voice with raunch of sufficient depravity to do justice to lyrics written by some very horny, very grungy street urchins from generations past.

Steve Frye plays the washboard like very few on the planet. Steve is the go-to drummer in Columbus these days but was already in huge demand 30 years ago when I played in his band (1987 thru 1991). We had a smoking little ensemble and all the gigs we could handle yet he was always running off to play the blues on the streets of New Orleans with this guy named barefoot Jeff for pocket change. Go figure. I kinda think he just liked doing that stuff and besides, he probably got laid a lot.

Bottom Line, there may well be no-one on the planet who knows as much about washboards (also called Rub-board/Stomp) as Steve, much less how to play the damn thing(s) and he treats the instrument like a concert violinist babys their strat.

These guys stole the show at Dead Buhrow II. Don Young put it best: "I was kicking back in my tent when I just started tapping my feet before I even realized they were doing it to me"

Oh yeah, the guy playing bass is Jim Wolfe. He's one of those multitalented Canadian deadheads. You know the type. When I met him he was a keyboard player. I let him bang around on my acoustic bass for a few days and next thing ya know he's taking my job. Goddamn immigrants! Just cause they're smarter, more industrious, and still possess a moral compass they think they can waltz on in just like my grandparents did and start doing the work all of us lazy asses think is below us.
