The Road to PyeongChang Pt. 1 Figure Skating【MAD / AMV】

after nearly six months of procrastination, finally finished this project that i've had in mind for ages. i thought it would be cool to do a recap of the past quad before we head into olympic season (yes i know, it's already started, but for this MAD's sake, i'm gonna pretend it starts at the gp circuit) because so much has changed. there have been rule changes (lyrics!!!! sometimes a blessing, sometimes a curse), retirements (😢), and so many breakouts and debuts.

this is probably the most ambitious project i've undertaken, and 14-15 season was especially back-breaking since i had, like, zero footage from that season. this project required sooo much downloading and scouring different competitions for the best camera angles (hence the PROCRASTINATION). i may or may not have been guilty of starting two new MADs while i was procrastinating on this one (one was the yuzuru hanyu one which i finished first, and the other is a personal favorite that is still in progress). there wasn't a strict selection criteria for skaters, but i tried to keep it as unbiased as possible by looking at the season rankings (except 14-15 bc i couldn't find it on the isu website damn) and major ISU championships results. but trying to fit 3 (and a half) seasons into less than four minutes is no easy feat. which is also why you don't see many jumps in here because jumps take up HELLA amount of frames. i think this particular project had 379 separate files (rip my computer) that had to load each time i was working on it.

disclaimer: i'm by no means saying this is unbiased. i obviously have more footage of some skaters than others coughyuzurucough and it doesn't exactly help that some skaters or teams just happened to have bad camera angles in their videos. but you have no idea how much i cut down on good footage for some skaters in hopes of keeping the field more balanced.

but this is only part 1! i've got a part 2 planned for this coming season which will hopefully be able to give skaters more than 30 frames (aka 1 second) lol. and yeah, i know, patrick is pink. some of the lighting in the competitions was horrible for coloring, and i couldn't exactly leave it as is because they were either 1) too grainy (rip sochi esp. caro footage) 2) washed out and pale as a ghost. so it was either ghost lighting or pink for patrick rip. and some other skaters. i literally hauled my ass the past 72 hours to color this hulk of a project (the process that takes the second to most time) and i mightttttt've just left my default coloring settings (and sharpening) for certain clips that were only like a second bc i'm tired and not gonna break my computer trying to fix that one second. sorry y'all i'll be better next time uwu.

anyways i love this music, and i thought it fit so well with the theme. not too many special effects going on, but the placement and timing of every single clip took forever, so it's all g to me. this project has been so draining (on me and my computer rip) and time-consuming, but i'm happy that 1) it's done 2) it's done before gp season 3) it's p damn good if i say so myself
