Using river rocks and floor tiles to sharpen knives.
This is an old old trick but I thought I would revisit it. I made a video some time ago on how to find the right kind of river stones in order to make (in some cases) very good honing/sharpening stones. Here in this video I show some more details.
Ceramic tiles of vitreous materials can make excellent sharpening stones. After all, commercial ceramic stones are basically the same but where the "grit size" is (or should be) homogeneous in composition and size, are designed in order to remove steel particles in a even manner. Here I explain how to fashion a scrap of ceramic floor tile in order to sharpen a knife with it.
