I was thinking about an old Japanese horror movie I saw, and looked up Asian vampire stuff. The storyline here is supposed to be something in between a vampire and a ghost, taking inspiration from the Chinese Jiangshi(vampire) and Japanese Ubume(ghost having died in childbirth) myths. Jiangshi are repelled by mirrors, which is why the bathroom mirror is smashed and covered, and the mirrors in the gate were put there to keep them contained.
