• Botanical embroidery. Flowers, herbs, gras...
Needed materials:
3 colours of DMC floss (light green, medium green, dark green)
sharp needle number 3-5
hoop
scissors
soft tulle or organza
stainless steel wire with a diameter of
approximately 0.3 mm. I used wire with a diameter of 0.32 mm.
Diagonal pliers or scissors
Embroidery steps:
1. Transfer the leaves indicated in the sketch to the tulle using a pencil or pen.
2. Next, we need to cut a small piece of wire using diagonal pliers or special scissors. Place the wire along the shape of the leaf and sew with regular stitches, the distance between stitches is 2-3 mm, on the rounding’s it‘s better to make the distance between stitches even smaller. The color of the thread should be the same as the color we will use to fill the first row of stitches of the leaf (here I used light green colour of DMC floss)
3. At the base of the leaf, where the wire crosses, make two straight stitches (crosswise) to secure the wire. Don‘t cut the ends of the wire
4. Next, we begin to embroider the leaf with long and short stitches in 1 strand. We use medium green and light green colours of DMC floss.
We embroider the central vein of the leaf with stem stitch in 1 strand, use dark green colour of DMC floss
5. Picking up the wire, make blanket stitches in 1 strand. Lay the stitches with a minimum interval. The color of the thread and the direction of the blanket stitches should match the color and direction of the 1st row of long and short stitches (here i used medium green colour of DMC floss)
6. Remove the fabric from the hoops and then carefully cut the fabric along the outline of the leaf, don't cut the ends of the wire (photo 102-106).
Happy stitching!
