Amazing Tone From a 1967 Marshall Super Lead 100 "Plexi" and 20w Greenbacks

Описание: After careful consideration I have decided to sell this beautiful amp and cab. It is listed on Ebay and available here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125895806251

A video we made of Andy Hesketh playing his '68 reissue Les Paul through my 1967 Marshall Super Lead 100 1959 amp, serial number SL10463 and 1968 Marshall 1960a cab, serial number 19880, with 20w pre-Rola Celestion "Greenback" speakers, all date stamped 03AA (3rd Jan 1968).

Things that I neglected to mention whilst I was waffling on in the video: The indicator lamp on the amp is different to the ones on most Marshall plexis of this era, but was used on the earliest Marshall amps, and does appear to be factory fitted on my amp.

The Hunts filter caps were replaced in 2006 with components of equal value and the on/off switch was also replaced at the same time with one from new old stock. One of the Gold caps on a tone pot knob was replaced with one from new old stock. I still have all of the original components. I have the original Mullard valves that were in the amp when I bought it, both EL34s and ECC83s.

The grille cloth on the cab is none standard. I don't know if it was factory fitted or if it was replaced before I bought the amp and cab in 1998 but it is very neatly done, although it now has a tear in the front.

I have the original black vinyl cover for the amp. One corner has come apart a little but the cover still works.

All of the still images used in this video are from this amp and can be viewed, along with others at http://www.amparchives.com/folder/475/
These images were added to amp archives in 2007, which is a treasure trove if, like me, you like looking at pictures of beautiful amplifiers on the internet.

I have done very little indeed in the way of mixing to the guitar tracks that I recorded for this video. I haven't touched them with EQ or compression, although I have panned the close mic left and the room mic right and on the track with bass and drums, I have added a little slapback delay to the close mic and a little hall reverb to the room mic, as well as running the whole track through some mastering software on Ableton which is my go to DAW. I tried to go for a 60s vibe for the track and I used the Glyn Johns technique to mic my drums up and attempted to play a little like the great Mitch Mitchell. I'll leave you to be the judge of how succesful I was in doing that. The bass was DIed into my interface and run through a plexi amp modeller.

Thanks very much for watching the video and for reading this information if you have, I hope you'll agree with us that the combination of amp, cab, guitar, recording techniques and most importantly, Andy's superb playing sounds absolutely fantastic and we will be making more videos featuring this amp soon. Please leave a comment below and let us know what you think or make suggestions to us.
