In this video, we do one last example of solving a first order circuit containing a sinusoidal source. Then, we introduce second order circuits - circuits containing two energy storage elements. We use another convenient 10 step recipe to make life easier while solving the second order differential equations and explain how to solve second order RLC circuits containing constant, step, sinusoidal and exponential sources.
We also describe the physical significance of overdamped, underdamped, and critically damped behavior and the importance of the damping coefficient alpha and resonant frequency omega. Finally, we complete examples of the 10 step recipe in action. I highly recommend following along with the examples in this video and verifying that you can solve them yourself.
Note that the 10 step recipe shown in the video assumes that students have not yet taken differential equations class. If you are already familiar with differential equations, you may also consider using tools like Laplace transforms to help solve the differential equations.
Note: these videos are original lecture recordings I have been making for my own classes and am sharing here in case they may be helpful to others as well. These videos are currently a work in progress over the course of the semester. I welcome your comments and feedback.
