The Windsor Police Service has officially launched the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault (CASA) Unit, a specialized team designed to handle some of the community’s most sensitive cases with trauma informed care.
The unit, which officially began operation on January 5, 2026, brings together six specially trained officers within the Special Victims Unit to ensure child abuse and sexual assault investigations receive focused attention, enhanced forensic interviewing, and coordinated support with Crown prosecutors, victim services, and community partners.
In 2025 alone, Windsor police investigated 245 child abuse-related incidents and 713 sexual assault-related incidents, highlighting the need for this dedicated team. Officials say the CASA Unit aims to support survivors with dignity, respect, and confidentiality every step of the way.
