Apothecary Diaries has been one of the better surprises to come outta this anime season. I didn't know much about the manga when the anime got announced so I didn't pay much attention to it, but now that I've seen most of the season, I gotta say I'm pretty impressed. I really enjoy the antics of Apothecary Diaries, especially the banter between Jinshi and Maomao. Maomao in general is fantastic. Her intelligence really shines through amidst the questionable brains in the rear palace. The 'doctors' who work there should be praying to a shrine of her every night given how little they know about literally anything. Throw the authorities in there too. It seems like Detective Doctor Maomao can solve just about anything. Except all the delicate social structures in the rear palace, not even her brains can get through all of that unscathed.
