In the environmental cleanup industry, there are few challenges greater than attempting to characterize and cleanup non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) in karst geology. Complex preferential pathways exist, which are nearly impossible to understand via conventional “drilling blind” techniques. When the City of Ada, Oklahoma had ~2,000 gallons of diesel fuel released into one of their municipal water supply wells, screened in karst geology to depths exceeding 100 feet BGS, they reached out to Aestus for assistance.
As described in this webinar, Aestus used our ultra-high resolution site characterization (UHRSC) GeoTrax CSM+™ process to image the subsurface, develop a robust 3D conceptual site model (CSM), and guide subsequent confirmation drilling and remediation work. Aestus imaged the site again using our time-lapse (temporal) GeoTrax Survey LTM™ technology to verify remediation effectiveness. Both the temporal imaging and the site monitoring wells indicated clean conditions following remediation in less than 2 years from the time of the diesel release.
