BLAIR COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Many major events occurred during the 1800's, but none were as impactful as the Civil War and the beginning of the fight for civil rights.
Back then, one man in Blair County became a part of that mission.
As we enter Black History Month, we start with a look at one barber's life in the Altoona region.
William Nesbit, originally from Carlisle, Pennsylvania, moved to Blair County in the 1840s, where he began his haircutting business.
With such a popular business, Nesbit began to make connections, and those connections would be of great use throughout his life, especially in regard to aiding escaped slaves.
