How to fix oil pressure issues on Audi 2.0T engine

Описание: In this episode, I strip the engine down to try and find any mechanical issues that may explain the oil pressure problems I am having (see episode 1).

After a detailed discussion of how the 2.0T lubrication system works, I replace the intake camshaft and both balance shafts in the engine, clean the whole system thoroughly, retime the motor and close everything up.

In the end, trying to resolve my oil pressure problems I have replaced:
oil pump
two oil pressure sensors
intake camshaft
camshaft bridge
oil pressure regulating valve

The two balance shafts looked to still be serviceable, although all of the oil screens were missing and there was some noticeable play in the intake balance shaft.

After completing the job and actually fixing the car, I think the problem was actually the intake camshaft. I started off with an oil pressure problem warning at highway cruising, which after replacing the oil pump and pressure regulating valve switched to an oil pressure warning and EPC light on (plus hesitation) at 1500 rpm. This is related to the intake camshaft angle adjustment, which pointed to the intake camshaft itself.

Having now done 5+ timing jobs on the 2.0T motor and having gone through the lubrication system in this project, I will think very hard before I buy another one of these motors. They are full of problems - timing chain tensioners, stretched timing chains, balance shafts, failing oil screens etc. That said, it is relatively easy to find decent and cheap Audi and VW vehicles with blown 2.0T engines because of these problems if you're ok with rebuilding the motor.
