The Xianbei were an ancient nomadic people that once resided in the eastern Eurasian steppes in what is today Mongolia, Inner Mongolia, and Northeastern China. They were Mongols in culture and language. Mulan was fighting against Rouran as a Xianbei female soldier. At that time, The Xianbei built a Kingdom(Northern Wei) and occupied China. But they were not Han-Chinese.
