Considered the emotional heart and the most famous movement of Rachmaninoff's All-Night Vigil, the fifth movement, Lord, Now Lettest Thou (Ныне отпущаеши), is one of Sergei Rachmaninoff's most intimate and revered compositions. The text is based on the "Song of Simeon" (Gospel of Luke), the prayer of a wise old man who, after holding the newborn in the temple, feels that his mission on Earth is complete and asks God to finally let him depart in peace. At the climax of the movement, oktavists Vladimir Miller and Alexander Ort bring it to a breathtaking close, almost mystically resting all the harmonics on a profound and subterranean Bb1.
Soloist: Egor Semenkov (tenor)
