RIVALS REUNITED | 60103 Flying Scotsman & 4079 Pendennis Castle DOUBLE HEAD! + 69013, 37401 & MORE!

Описание: After we saw the National Railway Museum’s World Famous LNER A3 Pacific 60163/ 4472 ‘Flying Scotsman’ arrive at Didcot back in early May,    • 66117 + 60103 FLYING SCOTSMAN arrive at DI...   today we return to the Didcot Railway Centre, where the Rivals Reunited event starring 'Flying Scotsman' alongside 4079 ‘Pendennis Castle’ was in full swing!

These former rival locomotives from the heyday of the Big Four Railway Companies represented express passenger locomotives typical of the 1920’s from the Great Western Railway and the London North Eastern Railway and their fascinating history is further intertwined following 'Pendennis Castles' export to Western Australia after being sold by McAlpine to Hamersley Iron in 1977, where in the Autumn of 1989, 4472 and 4079 worked together down under during ‘Flying Scotsmans’ Australian tour. Coverage begins with a fantastic line up with 60103 ‘Flying Scotsman’, 4079 ‘Pendennis Castle’, 5051 ‘Drysllwyn Castle’ and 6023 ‘King Edward II’, before the A3 heads onto the demonstration line to work passenger services, while 1340 ‘Trojan’ and the 1940 built GWR Diesel Railcar No. 22 were also in action.

Then in the afternoon a real treat, as 4079 ‘Pendennis Castle’ lined up to relieve 60103 ‘Flying Scotsman’ from the demonstration line, it was announced a slight change of plan and that both locomotives would in fact DOUBLE HEAD the last few services this afternoon, before heading back on shed, with the last double headed pairing of these two engines being back in the late 1980s during their tour of Western Australia! Two British locomotives, both repatriated from abroad, returned to the UK to be preserved for future generations, working together was a real preservation milestone, and certainly turned a few heads on the GWR IET running parallel to us on on Didcot East Curve!

With it being a Bank Holiday Monday, mainline freight traffic was quieter than usual through both Didcot Parkway and Didcot East Junction, but there are a couple of noteworthy moves in the film, with GBRF 69013 in Andy’s Man Club livery working 0M50 light engine between Eastleigh East Yard - Leicester L.I.P, 37401 'Mary Queen of Scots' (which replaced 57002) on the 5Z90 Southall Loco Services Ltd - Crewe Holding Sidings with the Chairman’s Train ECS, which passed through just as 'Pendennis Castle' and 'Flying Scotsman' coupled up, and 66177 on the 6C03 Northolt Sidings - Severnside Sita, as well as some DB sheds at Didcot Parkway, adding to the variation of a brilliant day! | 26.05.2025
