Jeetendra's real name was Ravi Kapoor. He was born on 7 April 1942 in Amritsar, Punjab into a middle-class Punjabi family.
His father Amichand Surti ran a jewellery business. The home environment was traditional and simple.
Jeetendra received his early education from St. Cecilia's School in Mumbai and later graduated in Science.
His father used to supply jewellery to film producers, which is how Jeetendra got his start in the film world.
In the 1959 film Navarin, Jeetendra worked as a body double. This was the beginning of his film journey.
Jeetendra got the lead role in the 1964 film Boo Ji, but he got his real fame with the 1967 film Faraj.
Due to his energetic dance and unique style, he was called the "Jumping Jack of Bollywood".
