The albatrosses, from the family Diomedeidae, are large seabirds in the order Procellariiformes which is a group with the Procellariidae, Storm petrels and Diving petrels.
This bird is found widely in the Antarctic Ocean and the North Pacific. This bird is not found in the North Atlantic, although fossil finds prove that this bird once existed there. The albatrosses are among the largest flying birds, and the great albatrosses (genus Diomedea) have the greatest wingspan of any other bird.
Albatrosses are very efficient in the air, using gliding and soaring techniques to fly great distances with little effort. This bird feeds on squid, fish, and shrimp, by eating stranded animals, hunting on the surface of the water, and diving.
