The Taliban did not invent cruelty. They inherited ancient legal ideas, froze them in time, and enforced them as modern law.
That is the real danger of religious literalism, and it is the same mistake people make when they read the Manusmriti as a divine command instead of a historical social-legal document.
In this video, I compare Taliban law with the Manusmriti, not to defend either — but to expose a fundamental error in modern political discourse: treating ancient religious texts as rulebooks instead of historical records. When that mistake is made, every civilisation looks barbaric — Hindu, Islamic, Christian, and Jewish.
The Manusmriti categorised society into functional classes, prescribed unequal punishments, mentioned slavery as a normal institution, restricted women’s autonomy, and treated domestic violence leniently. These ideas are not unique to Hindu civilisation.
The Taliban actively enforces ancient religious law today, punishing women, minorities, artists, dancers, and dissenters.
