The US Coast Guard has confirmed it detected and tracked a Russian intelligence vessel, Kareliya, off Hawaii’s coast late last month. The ship operated 15 miles from Oahu, outside US territorial limits. Coast Guard aircraft and patrol boats monitored the vessel as part of homeland security efforts. Officials stressed the mission followed international law and was coordinated with other US agencies. The Kareliya, part of Russia’s Pacific Fleet, had been seen near Hawaii in 2021 and 2022. Moscow has yet to comment on the latest U.S. tracking effort.
