Presented by the Centre on Governance and the Federalism and Multilevel Governance Research Network:
Ranging across the main aspects of revenue raising, fiscal transfers and spending, this presentation considers issues of vertical fiscal imbalance, equalization, and the spending power in Canada against the background of practices in Australia, Germany, Switzerland, and the United States. In doing so, it asks two main questions: to what extent and in what ways should Canada be considered a case of ‘best practice’ fiscal federalism; and what explains the key aspects of the Canadian system’s structure and functioning?
Guest speaker: Dr. Alan Fenna, Curtin University
Alan Fenna is Professor of Politics at The John Curtin Institute of Public Policy, Curtin University, Western Australia. He publishes in the areas of Australian politics and government; Australian and comparative federalism; economic policy; social policy; and constitutional issues.
Event chaired by Prof. André Lecours, research director of the Federalism and Multilevel Governance Research Network and professor in the School of Political Studies.
