Last week, I got this book issued from my university’s library: Man Chalay Ka Sauda by Ashfaq Ahmad, and I read this over 300 pages book within a span of 7 days. The reason I chose to read this book was its thoughtful excerpts which caught my attention on different social media pages as well as my prior experience of reading Ashfaq Sahib’s Zaviya.

So, Man Chalay ka Sauda is an Urdu drama which consists of a total of 13 episodes and it is much much better than the dramas which are being aired on television nowadays. Thankfully, it doesn’t talk about divorce, marriage, disloyal men or women rather contains soulful discussions about life, happiness, contentment, and spirituality. After reading this, I have learnt a lot about how I should lead my life and my relationship with the people I have in my life and of course the Allah Almighty. This book will open the closed horizons of your mind, I bet you for that!
The drama hails a protagonist Irshad (a successful businessman), who after leading 50 years of his life realizes that he has achieved whatever he aimed in his life except one thing, and that is the meaningful use of his time. By meaningful here I mean that something which apart from materialistic and worldly stuff gives you contentment, and satisfaction. Ashfaq Ahmad makes it really clear how science has been successful in providing comfort to human beings and also short term happiness, but it can never provide humans with contentment and satisfaction which in Urdu are termed as ‘Sukoon.’ Irshad covers the road to spirituality from episode 1 to episode 13. There comes a lot of life turning events in his life, notably one in which he decides to abandon all his 3 factories and lives a life of a pious man, who does not desire wealth and only cares about doing good for and to people. Now, practically we all are in a haste of acquiring wealth because life couldn’t be imagined without money. So, the central idea of this book is that yes we all need wealth, money, successful careers, but they are not more important than our relationships, ethical and moral values and our relationship with Allah. In an event of conflict, we should stick to the latter ones, such that we don’t regret in our lives in future.
Each and every page of this book is beautiful and would give you all useful lessons in your life. It would never put you in stress or depression, but will lead to a way where you become satisfied with whatever Allah has given you. There’s no one in this world who hasn’t seen ups and downs in his life, so we must not generalize one good event or one bad event on his entire life (who bara khush naseeb hai or who bara badnaseeb hai) because you never know what happens the next second, whether you’re going to make to the next day of your life or not.
