At Orff Level III in Lincoln, NE, Summer 2024, Karen Benson taught us "Cool Cat," a fun beginning recorder song that utilizes the 12 Bar Blues. Her original version has accompanying recorder parts that use high C and D, and low E and D. I made this track, with permission, for the main melody. I think it's a fantastic way to practice BA and G without suffering from an overdose of "Hot Cross Buns"! It also allows students to have their "rockstar" moment as they begin to understand and embrace improvisation.
Major kudos to my 7 year old son who sang that melody for me in a pinch this morning! Love you, Garby!
