Fresh violence erupted in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district for the second consecutive day on Tuesday (December 23, 2025), despite prohibitory orders, a night curfew and suspension of internet services in Karbi Anglong and neighbouring West Karbi Anglong districts.

The unrest began on Monday(December 22) when protesters demanding the eviction of alleged encroachers from Professional Grazing Reserve (PGR) and Village Grazing Reserve (VGR) lands went on a rampage, torching the residence of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang, around 15 shops in Kheroni Bazaar, and two motorcycles. Protesters also attempted to attack the Kheroni police station, which was foiled by security forces.


‘LAND OF KHUSHI MARJI’: IN CONVERSATION WITH K4 KEKHO ON ARUNACHAL’S REALITIES

Kekho Thiamkho, widely known as K4 Kekho, a rapper, singer, and music producer from Arunachal Pradesh, has once again come out with an exciting piece of music. His rap lyrics in Arunachali Hindi are extensively loved by all, as they reflect the present scenario of the state.

His rap song, “Arunachal Pradesh kaha mein hai, kya woh jagat China mein hai…”, a connotation of existence for Arunachalees, was also a great hit. He hails from Lower Chinhan village in Tirap district and belongs to the Ollo tribe, a sub-tribe of the Noctes.

Kekho’s animated video “Land of Khushi Marji” reflects many recent scenarios of the state. Arunachali tribals embracing entrepreneurship is relatively new, and here the artist conveys how people tend to choose the same business models that are already prevalent in the market.

This time, the rapper used beatboxing in the introductory part with “Ollo,” meaning hello, which is also a sub-tribe of the Nocte community.

The lyrics read, “Mera paisa, mera jagah khushi marji. Restaurant khola toh hum bhi kholega, futsal khola toh hum bhi kholega, swimming pool khola toh hum bhi kholega,” and give a twist with a pause when it says, “Kapda khola toh…”. This implies opening the same ventures that are already present in the market, with a humorous pause when it comes to opening clothes.

K4 says, "We cannot change our mother tongue or accent, and there is nothing to be ashamed of. I have been vocal about this since becoming a public figure. Some may argue, and I agree to some extent, especially for formal documentation. But we are talking about Arunachal, which lacks a common language. It is about emotion and relatability. If a song requires authenticity, I prefer Arunachali Hindi. Depending on the song and mood, I choose between a strong accent, subtle accent, or no accent. For example, in the film Bhediya, we used Arunachali Hindi for “Go Vishanu Go” as it depicted an Arunachali neighbourhood, while the theme song used a neutral Hindi accent.
The comment section has been overwhelming, with some suggesting the song should be a state anthem and others reflecting on corruption. How do you see these responses?
I do not think it should be an official state anthem. There are many good things about our beautiful state. I am blessed to be born here and be part of such a vibrant culture. This song exists because we love our state and want change. When people suggest it as an anthem, they are saying they want a better society, progress, and prosperity. I did not write this song to mock our people or the state. I wanted people to understand the meaning behind every line. People do not like being preached to, but they love being entertained.


UNDER-17 SUBROTO MUKHERJEE FOOTBALL CUP BEGINS IN LOHIT

TEZU, 24 Dec: The 13th edition of the Under-17 Boys and the 7th edition of the Under-17 Girls district-level Subroto Mukherjee Football Cup commenced on Tuesday at Jubilee General Ground here in Lohit district.

In his inaugural address, Lohit DIPRO Nyatum Doke said that the tournament is not merely about goals and trophies, but about inculcating discipline, teamwork, resilience, and strong character among young players. He urged the players to play with honesty, courage, and respect. “Winning or losing is secondary to playing the game in its true spirit,” he said.
Expressing happiness over the participation of both boys and girls, he emphasized the importance of teamwork.

Doke further urged all players to uphold sportsmanship, respect referees’ decisions, and play fair, while appreciating coaches and officials for shaping not just athletes but responsible citizens.

District deputy school education officer (DDSE) Tumngam Nyodu spoke about the value of discipline, sportsmanship, and the importance of sports in the overall development of students.
