The big moment finally arrived — after nearly a year of hauling water, running a generator for every little task, and figuring things out the long way… we brought solar power to the island.
This episode follows the whole process — from hauling heavy panels up the big hill behind the house, to building a strong wooden mount that can handle those wild winter winds coming off the ocean. It was a lot of work, but it’s a big step toward a more self-reliant life out here.
Somewhere in the middle of all that, the heat got to us — which doesn’t happen often around here. So we took a break and crossed the harbour to our favourite swimming spot — a little waterfall tucked into the woods. We went for a dip with the dogs, cooled off, and Kelly did some good old-fashioned sock washing right in the fresh water.
We also got our hands on an old fridge this week, thanks to our buddy Jeff, and managed to get that back to the house too — another upgrade now that we’ve got steady power to run it.
We wrap up this week with a sit-down Q&A and a quiet cup of tea at the kitchen table, feeling grateful for another piece of the puzzle falling into place.
