For a 7-seat MPV, the Triber's engine sounds small and underpowered, but it does better than you might expect. Here are three things to keep in mind:
First, the Renault Triber's 1.0-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated engine was updated for the BS6.2 emission norms and that has made a dramatic change. It's much smoother, quieter and easier to drive than before. It is still available with a 5-speed manual or an AMT automatic.
Second, driving the manual showed us that if you spend some time to get to know it, it can be easy to live with. In the city, just stick it in 2nd or 3rd gear and it will just amble along all day. On the highway too, it zips comfortably. Sitting at 100kmph, it is quiet and smooth. If you want to go faster, it can do that, but if you're in a rush, it will feel underpowered.
Third, don't worry about inclines when travelling with a full load because the 1st gear is tuned to help it do that comfortably.
