$100 million energy scandal rocks Kyiv government | News in Depth

Описание: A $100 million corruption scandal at Ukraine’s state-owned energy giant Energoatom has rocked the country’s political establishment.

According to investigators, officials allegedly demanded bribes worth 10–15 percent of contract values, delaying key projects until payments were made — even as Ukrainians endured nationwide power outages.

Two senior ministers, Justice and Energy, have now resigned, while Timur Mindich, a long-time associate of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has reportedly fled the country.

In this episode, Matthew Day, Senior Online Editor at TVP World, explains how leaked recordings exposed the scandal, forcing Kyiv to confront corruption at the highest level.

Zelenskyy condemned the abuses and promised swift justice, but critics say he can’t escape responsibility.

Still, the investigation itself shows that Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies are working — even in wartime. It’s a double-edged moment for Kyiv: politically damaging, yet proof that the country is serious about reform.
