The CDC reports that 1 in 4 Americans have a condition that could be considered a disability. Disability rights and justice are systemic issues that affect people on a large scale.

Meet Anna Landre, a disability justice activist and policymaker. Anna experienced the impact of these systemic issues when the state of New Jersey attempted to strip her of essential care and assistance services. These services included the support of a caregiver who helped Anna with daily tasks like getting out of bed and getting dressed. Unfortunately, such attempts to cut services are not uncommon.

Anna Landre is an activist with Adapt, a grassroots nonviolent protest and civil disobedience group that has been instrumental in driving change. Originating in Denver, Colorado, during the 1980s, Adapt gained momentum as disabled individuals protested the lack of accessibility by chaining themselves to buses.

Anna Landre and Adapt have achieved significant milestones in state legislature, resulting in the enactment of laws that streamline access to essential services for students with disabilities in college and beyond. These changes have also fostered a shift in societal attitudes towards disability rights.

Anna has also been working to support a Ukrainian disability led organization in evacuating and providing aid to disabled Ukrainians in Russia's war on Ukraine.

By raising awareness of her personal struggle, Anna Landre has created a deterrent against future attempts by the government to strip individuals of vital services — an issue exacerbated by the privatization of healthcare.
