Cambridge historian Dr Eamonn O'Keeffe shares his discoveries about the origins of Britain’s famous brass bands.
O'Keeffe has discovered that the earliest brass bands were invented by soldiers returning from the Napoleonic Wars, making them even older than we’ve been led to believe.
His research also undermines the idea that brass bands were a civilian and exclusively northern creation.
Dr O'Keeffe is a National Army Museum Junior Research Fellow at Queens' College, Cambridge and part of the University’s Centre for Geopolitics. He has twice been an expert on the BBC’s ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ programme.
The film features a specially recorded performance by The Harrogate Band and numerous historic images.
