Dynamic revetments are a promising option for coastal erosion mitigation in high-energy environments. They mimic a naturally-occurring beach type, and are thought to provide coastal protection while reducing negative impacts to the public beach. However, engineering guidance for dynamic revetments is extremely limited, making their implementation difficult.
This talk will include a short overview of existing engineering guidance for dynamic revetments, as well as the gaps in our understanding of these structures. Then, this talk will cover two projects currently underway at Oregon State that are using field and laboratory experiments to gain a better scientific understanding of dynamic revetments, and discuss how their results will be used to improve engineering guidance.
