WITHOUT BEING NEAR

Описание: The new Iona Village Hall was completed in May 2021, when Covid restrictions were still in place and events were not allowed. In September that year Event Scotland provided some funding to stage and film an event in the new hall, to showcase it as one of Scotland's new creative spaces. Directed by Blair Young, 'Without Being Near' is the result.

It's a short film about the new Iona Village Hall, the old Iona Village Hall, community, the Iona Village Hall Music Festival, creativity in the more remote parts of Scotland, and how to inhabit a new space with art and ideas - all set against the backdrop of the pandemic. Older footage is combined with specially filmed musical performances from Free Love, Roddy Woomble, Hannah Fisher and Sorren Maclean, spoken word from Michael Pedersen and Elizabeth Hanks, and dance from Jade Adamson.

The Iona Village Hall Music Festival ran for four years from 2014 - 2017. Acts that performed include Frightened Rabbit, Idlewild, King Creosote, This Is The Kit, C Duncan, Admiral Fallow, Rozi Plain, Alexi Murdoch, Errors, and Kathryn Joesph amongst many others. The festival always ended with a raucous Ceilidh with the Hannah Fisher Ceilidh band

Although the festival will not return in 2023, there will be a special event announced soon.
