One of the most challenging things that you have to do during your PhD is balancing your time. If you have a spouse or partner, I think the most important part of PhD process.
If you are a spouse, and you need help because your spouse is doing a PhD, leave comments below to find someone else to talk to.
All of you in the family will be frustrated with process. Not only are you going to be frustrated with dedicating a lot of time to the process, but also that you are making far less money than you expected.
How do you need with fact that your spouse is doing a PhD?
1. Dedicating time to the relationship is not a waste of time. As a engineer, I had to think of this as a risk minimization strategy. I have life insurance, workers compensation insurance, and why don’t I think of the relationship in this way?
2. You don’t have to do what everyone else does. Being normal sucks - work on your relationship.
3. Communicate to your partner who you really feel - we have different communication styles.
4. Recognize that you both have to work together as a team within the family unit. Sit down and plan your schedule together for the next month. It is important that you do this together.
5. Get your spouse to dedicate time with you. You should aim for date night on a regular basis. Tell your spouse that he or she is investing in your relationship.
6. Find academic friends that do not stress you out, and that you can laugh with. You need to get a basis for why your partner is still in school. You need reassurance that this is normal.
7. Invest in your own activities away from your PhD spouse. If you don’t have children, maybe consider that you go back to school?

David Maslach is a research professor of entrepreneurship, innovation, and business strategy, I discuss topics, such as behavioral science, strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and apply these to my new peer proofreading and editing platform. Topics include the sharing economy, altruism, investing in technology, starting a business, and bounded rationality. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements.
https://r3ciprocity.com: Peer proofreading and editing platform
A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money.
The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.
