Andhra Pradesh Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh has said the state is set to introduce a new heritage tourism policy aimed at conserving historic public buildings and unlocking their tourism potential. Speaking at the FHRAI convention in Bengaluru, he revealed that the government is also working on a tent city policy for ‘Pushkarams’, once-in-12-year river festivals like the Kumbh Mela of the north.
Durgesh said the Naidu government’s 2024–29 tourism policy has given industry status to tourism, extending incentives for investment. Andhra Pradesh has also rolled out a land allotment policy, the first of its kind in India, to promote public-private partnerships in tourism infrastructure.
Highlighting Andhra Pradesh’s cultural wealth, Durgesh cited projects like the restoration of Rajahmundry’s historic town hall built by reformer Veeresalingam Pantulu and the promotion of Erra Matti Dibbalu, a site on UNESCO’s tentative heritage list. With plans for tent cities at Tirupati, Srisailam, Annavaram, and Simhachalam ahead of Godavari Pushkaram 2027, the minister invited investors to tap opportunities in hospitality, eco-tourism, and coastal development across the state’s 974-km coastline.
